About the Project

From waste to resource

One of the most challenging problems in everyday life is knowing how to deal with used cooking oil. Many street vendors reuse cooking oil even though it has been used many times, consequently it will have a negative impact on health. In addition, if dumped into the environment, it can cause soil and water pollution and disrupt these ecosystems. In attempting to solve the problem of waste cooking oil, 7th and 8th grade Vietnamese English learners will be required to be able to express ideas by addressing the issue and coming up with realistic solutions.

During this project :

  • Students will conduct an interview with local community or recycling workers to understand the recycling process of used oil, and deliver a presentation which focuses on a meaningful problem to be solved or a question to answer, at the appropriate level of challenge.

  • Students will be guided through a series of learning steps to explore their questions and gain more knowledge. They will also design posters or flyers for local communities that show how cooking oil recycling projects will benefit the Earth.

  • Students will collect used oil from local communities, street vendors and restaurants to design and create their own soap with appropriate packaging to sell with profits that go towards funding the project and charity.

  • In the end, students will make their project work publicly by sharing with and explaining or presenting it to people beyond the classroom.
