How to Obtain a F.B.I. Identity History Summary Check (IHSC)

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

Teaching licenses for Washington, DC are issued by the District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education (DC OSSE). TEACH-NOW completers are eligible to apply for a 4-Year Standard Renewable license. You will need to submit:

  1. Official transcript for a bachelor’s degree or a foreign transcript evaluation report (TEACH-NOW recommends using WES for foreign credential evaluations).

  2. FBI background check (also called an Identity History Summary Check)

  3. Passing scores on the following ETS-administered exams:

    1. Praxis Core Reading, Math, and Writing exams (It is possible to waive the Praxis Core Reading and Math exams by substituting scores from the SAT or ACT and it is possible to waive the Praxis Core Reading, Math and Writing exams by substituting scores from the GRE.) *

    2. Praxis content knowledge exam in the area one is seeking to be certified in.

    3. Principles of Learning and Teaching exam at grade level one is seeking to be certified in.

  4. Program Verification form on successful completion of program from TEACH-NOW

  5. Official Moreland University Transcript (The above information was cited from the TEACH-NOW Teacher Preparation Certificate Program)

  • Fee: 18 USD (pay online)

  • How To Fill Out an FD-258 Fingerprint Card (I printed with A4 paper by myself.)

  • How to print the fingerprints (Remember to use black ink.)
