The Future of Schooling- becoming a reflective practitioner

Updated: Sep 27, 2022

M2 U3 Activity 3: The Future of Schooling

Project Description

Overview Change can occur in incremental ways or through major events in history that permanently shift the status quo. Given how the pandemic has impacted human life in every way, the social and physical constructs of schooling have similarly been disrupted. While this shift has led to disorganization, it also creates an opportunity to re-imagine what schooling should be based on what is most important for student learning, growth, and development. The impetus for change and redesign has never been greater. In this activity, you will explore opportunities and possibilities for education and redesign what learning, and schooling should look like in the 21st Century and beyond. You will also begin an important skill that all educators must build, i.e. becoming a reflective practitioner. Look back at your work completed in this module, what new knowledge you have learned and what new skills you would like to showcase as your professional learning and development. Begin creating your e-portfolio that you can complete when you finish the program and share with educators and employers.

Performance outcomes

  • Candidates deconstruct the culture of schooling and brainstorm ideas and possibilities for the future of education

  • Candidates will create an e-portfolio to document their teaching and learning journey

What will you do?

1. Reexamine the importance of a growth mindset as you dream about what the future of schooling can look like. At Moreland University-Teach Now, we have intentionally created an activity-based program based on the growth mindset in order to foster creativity and develop 21st Century skills in our candidates. A growth mindset is critical in order to help each student reach his/her maximum potential.

2. Brainstorm ideas with your cohort on how traditional schooling can be reimagined to lead to greater impact on student learning, development, and growth.

3. Explore ways you can redesign the education environment to meet the needs of today’s students. Consider:

  • Purpose of schooling

  • Learning environment

  • Teaching methods

  • Academic curricula

  • Social/Emotional skills

  • Skills and competencies

  • Parent and Community involvement

4. Create a podcast or audio clip (approximately 5 minutes) detailing what your reimagined future of learning and schooling looks like. You can use a tool like Google Voice, Dragon Dictate, or Evernote to record your thoughts in audio as well as text. This helps in editing and finalizing your audio clip.

5.Listen and comment on at least two peers’ submissions.

6.Using your choice of platform (Google Sites, Wix, Blogger, Wordpress, etc), create an e-portfolio for documenting your learning throughout the program. Be sure to include a profile/introduction as well as your Laws and Policies video from this week and your infographic on plagiarism. You will add artifacts to your e-portfolio throughout the program and submit it again near the end of your Clinical Practice.

Report requirements

  • Podcast or audio clip on Future of Learning and Schooling

  • Peer comment on at least two other cohort members’ submissions.

  • E-portfolio
