Building Global Connections: Grade 4 Students Join a Culture and Language Exchange
Our Grade 4 students at VAS Sala are starting a culture and language exchange program with Chiapei Elementary School in Taiwan! This program will help students improve their language skills, learn about new cultures, and connect with friends from another country.
Program Details
Online Activities on Padlet:
Students will introduce themselves, share cultural ideas, and reply to each other’s posts.
They can work at their own pace.
Monthly Live Meetings:
Students will meet online once a month to talk in Chinese and English, depending on their level.
These meetings will help them practice speaking and build confidence.
Why This Program is Important? Through this exchange, students will:
Improve their Chinese and English skills.
Learn to appreciate different cultures and traditions.
Build friendships and understand the value of diversity.
How Parents Can Help:
Create a Padlet account for your child to join the online platform.
Install Pinyin Chinese input on their device so they can type in Chinese.
I believe this program will help our students grow into confident, curious, and globally-minded learners.
Nov 26th:
Our Taiwanese friend prepared some local Taiwanese snacks, gifts and also wrote a 春聯 (Chūnlián), which refers to traditional Chinese couplets written on red paper. These are often displayed during the Lunar New Year to bring good luck and prosperity. The 春聯 they wrote says '招財進寶', which means 'bringing in wealth and treasures.' It’s a way to wish for good fortune and prosperity in the new year.

Nov 19th:
We had our first face-to-face online meeting with our little Taiwanese friends. All of them introduced themselves with more details in both English and Chinese.
Both groups are very excited to meet each other! Next month, it will be our children’s turn to introduce themselves. They will share their name, age, grade, birthday, and hobbies in both Chinese and English.
